Through images and stories, the project explores many questions.
Who are we? Who do we want to be? Who are our heroes, role models,
and ideals? What are we escaping from? What are we trying to become?
Or is it all just good fun.
There are a wide range of fantasy arenas: Anime, Drag Queens,
Goth, Civil War, Renaissance Fairs, Tattoos, costumes for rights
of passage (christening, first communion, wedding, death) etc.
This project will focus individuals from a few of them.
On Passion
I used to think that passion was this big huge magnet that was
your True North. That it's pull was so strong, you had no choice.
The voice was so strong, it was all you would hear. Your calling,
larger than anything, a huge presence that radiated. You couldn't
fight it, it was there governing everything.
And now, looking at these definitions, I find that yes, passion
is all these things. What matters is not how big, noisy or strong
the calling is, but what is my ability to listen, feel, see and
heed the call. Following one's passion does not equal a made for
TV docudrama, although one may be made, more likely not. I find
it closer to the eternal drip drip of water in a single spot that
gradually wears away stone - to eventually emerge a breathtakingly
beautiful river gorge, displaying eons of earth stratums.
In all the minute moments, through seasons dark and light, a path
emerges, a river's true calling. The choice is how much awareness
one brings to the experience to define how great the passion felt.
Is “dressing up” a message from one’s
inner calling? Is it a way to communication with your true passion
in
a world that tries to normalize everything and every one?
